Sports thoughts on the holidays.

Thanks readers,

It is hard to believe more than 10,000 readers have visited this site over time. Glad to see someone enjoys my work. Goal for the new year is to keep contest fresh. See below for some Christmas thoughts.

I often look at what some people, teams and others associated with the world of sports might want it they could get some Christmas gifts under the tree, so here goes the wish list for 2012.

Any other league in professional sports would love to have just a taste of the NFL rookies this year. RG III, Andrew Luck and, yes NC state fans, Russell Wilson have given football fans an early Christmas this year. Should be a great finish.

Texas Rangers fans want an explanation for why Josh Hamilton was allowed to leave. Not only a great player but a great story. To bad for Ranger fans he was allowed to leave because owners wouldn't reach a reach a little deeper into their pockets and now he is headed for California. Angels fans also got something early under the Christmas tree.

North Carolina State fans hope for even a sliver of the success that is anticipated this year. Could it be there are finally three real Triangle basketball teams. Time will tell. The Pack has the ability, just need to learn how to use it.

Fans in Braves nation would love a Christmas present that included Dale Murphy in the hall of fame. Come on sports writers, give Murph the opportunity he deserves. He was a gentle giant and deserves recognition for it.  The opportunity to put old number 3 in Coopertown will end this year which will be a tragedy if it doesn't happen.

It will probably never happen but a lot of baseball fans would love to see a big surprise, Pete Rose in Cooperstown. Continues to bewilder me as to why I didn't see number 14 when I visited the hall, There is no credibility to the hall of fame without Charlie Hustle in it.

This year I would like a little discipline to open the doors of The Corner a little more often. I love putting my opinion out there and hope to do a lot more of it next year.

Merry Christmas and New year!
