Who are the Woerners for in Cup?

UPDATE: Since Ghana lost to Uruguay today, in P.K.'s Ghana should have won, I can no longer pull for them.  One would think I would then pull for Uruguay but after watching they way they played, flopping all over the place trying to get yellow cards on the lone African team I can say I don't like them.  So lets go Netherlands!  Below is a video of a main reason I don't like Uruguay, Suarez from Uruguay knocked down a shot in the final minute of extra time with his hand on the goal line, it would have clearly been the winning goal but it was not and Ghana proceeded to miss the P.K.  With that said it is a poor play on Suarez's part and I hope karma come backs and grabs them.

The World Cup is back in action as the Netherlands defeated Brazil today in the quarterfinals.  Brazil led 1-0 at the half but the Netherlands came out strong and took the 2-1 lead in the 68th minute.  Here in the Corner I am happy because I don't like dominate teams such as Brazil in any sport and I really wanted Brazil to lose after their comeback win against the US in the Confederations Cup a year ago.

So who is the Corner for in the remaining games of the World Cup, or at least one of the brothers?  Well since Woerner used to be Worner, pronounced Vorner (kinda of) and German is my original heritage I am pulling for Germany.  I really like Lukas Podolski (right) for the Germans.  Another team I am pulling for in the quarter finals is Ghana.  I like them for two reason, one they beat the USA and two they are the final African team left and it makes for a loud and exciting game to watch with the Cup being held in South Africa.  For the final game of the quarterfinals I am for Paraguay.

Tom - Lets go Deuschland. (Germany For those that don't know that)
I admit I don't know a whole lot about soccer so I will stick with the sentimental favorite. Gotta go with the family name.

Leave a comment with who you want to win in the quarterfinals!

Why is it a poor play by Suarez? His only other option was to let the ball into the goal and lose the game. It's a brilliant play with no time left in an elimination game. It's better that he can't play one game than his team go home.

I agree with you on the flops (by most teams). FIFA needs to implement post match yellow and red cards. The refs have to watch 22 players at once, so they are often left with perphial vision to make decisions. If a post match video review shows a play holding his mouth like he got punched when he really only got nicked in the stomach by a inadvertant hand motion yield a post match red card, it would put a stop to it. If you hold you knee and roll on the ground like you were shot when you really only got you cleats tangled with another player got you a post match yellow card, it would reduce flops.

Ric,

I like the idea on post match yellow and red cards but the way FIFA is and how they like controversy (or so I have heard) I doubt that will happen.

On Suarez he made a smart play knowing how the rules work. What I meant by poor was I do not like the rules the way they are with goal line hand ball, with the ball clearly going in being a PK. I understand in the box handball's being PK's just not goal line. I personally feel there should be some sort of goal tending call like in basketball.

With that said who are you for with all the remaining teams? I'd be interested in who the rest of your family is rooting for too!
