Manning not news worthy

It is the situation involving one Peyton Manning that once again prompts me to knock off the dust on the doors to The Corner. It is hard to imagine a sports story which has gotten as much main stream news coverage as this one has.
There is no need to describe the Manning situation to almost any sports fan. Like two teenagers long in "love" the older of the Manning brothers split with the only team he has played for last week.
The only thing that even comes close to comparing this situation is Lebron’s freak show that ended with a national televised news conference and Lebron making the now famous comment that “I am taking my talents to South Beach.”
There is little doubt Manning is the best quarterback of his generation though his younger brother has a legitimate argument and the most recent Super Bowl ring to show off his record. No one in sports short of Derek Jeter was identified more with a team than Manning was with the Colts. It is hard to imagine he will succed as much with another team as he did with Indianaplolis. He will soon appear on the has been list right along with Joe Montana, in his last struggling days in Kansas City, Franco Harris trying to save his image as a Steeler while wearing a Seahawk jersey and Emit Smith laboring in Arizona. He will also eventually stand beside those same men on the steps to the Hall of Fame.
Fans can only hope if he does come back he will do so with a a clean bill of health. We can only hope he is even part of the player he was before his injuries.
