Bonds chapter over

I am not exactly clear about my position on the penalty imposed on Barry Bonds for his role in the steroid era but I am sure of one thing, I am glad it is over.
There is no doubt, steroids or not, that Bonds was the story of the 1990s. No one athlete represented the problem of steroids in baseball more than Bonds. No one ever hit the ball like he did. Summer after summer he crushed baseball after baseball at rates never seen before. Pitcher after pitcher tried to pitch around him only to see another splash landing in McCovey Cove.
It soon became clear Bonds could not do what he was doing without artificial help. Everyone knew there were steroids involved but until the end Bonds kept it well hidden.
Hall of Famer voters now have a dilemma. Some will ask how the homerun king can be kept out of Cooperstown. I can tell you how, one vote at a time. If the hall wants to maintain credibility Pete Rose needs to be on the stage beside Bonds. Putting Bonds in and keeping Rose out is hypocrisy.
Hopefully Bonds punishment will at least put this dark issue in baseball's past. It will inevitably come up each year when hall of fame voting takes place but it is a chapter most fans would like to forget.
