A Few more awards to give out

I was cleaning out the closet and found a few more  TOMMY awards, there are a large number of winners this year.

I found a TOMMY for the worst teams in baseball. There are a few names on it. Over the long haul there have been temporary signs of improvement but I am glad I am not a fan of the Orioles, Pirates or Royals. The last time anyone really cared about the Orioles was after Cal Ripken Jr., set his record. The Royals used to be a power house, 30 years ago. Not since the George Brett days have they been significant. The Pirates were great under Jim Leyland in the 1990s but ever since they were eliminated by the Braves in the playoffs it has been a down hill slide.

The TOMMY for Your Name Sounds like one from the movies, golfer Rory Mcillroy. I smile every time I hear his name. That is because I loved Kevin Costner starring as a no name golfer who made his way to the U.S. Open in the classic sports movie Tin Cup. His character’s name, Roy McCillroy. And, to add to the coincidence, the real Mr. Mcillroy is leading the U.S. Open after the first round of play.

And the final TOMMY of the year goes to the bloggers, sports fans and friends, who stop by The Corner. Whether you were linked here from Facebook or you stumbled on us another way, we thank you and will welcome you back.
