And the best manager is...

It is a little late coming but here are the top five managers I have noticed in the more than 30 years I have been following the game.

5. Sparky Anderson-He gets a vote just because of his neat name. He was one of the first manager's I remember. Any kids loves a guy named Sparky. He first made a name for himself with the Big Red Machine of Cincinatti. He was then successful leading the Detroit Tigers. A great baseball mind.

4. Jim Leyland- He was the last manager to succeed in Pittsburgh. He has shown a great knowledge of the game. Another one that knows the game. You have to admire him for recent success in Detroit in his later years as a manager

3. Joe Torre- Began and ended his career as an average manager but in the middle was one of the greats leading the Yankees. He had talent in New York but was a master in keeping the egos of the stars under control.

2 Tony Larussa-The most flexible manager in the game. Just keeps doing it every year, over and over again. Great manager in both leagues. Could very well be in the hall of fame.

1. Bobby Cox-Is there really a need to explain.? Bobby is waiting for the invitation to Cooperstown. He no doubt is the best to ever be in charge of the clubhouse.
