NCAA Investigations

StateFansNation is reporting via tomahawknation that Marvin Austin may be suspended for his senior year.  Click the link for a full report on what is going on.

With not any breaking news articles on a gray Monday, at least in Raleigh, I wanted to throw my two cents out on the NCAA investigations that have come to light in the past couple of days.  If you haven't heard University of North Carolina is under the bright light of the NCAA.  Several players, I have heard up to 13, are being investigated for taking trips or gifts on NFL agents pockets.  The most notable players are Marvin Austin a probable first round pick and Greg Little a possible draft pick.

Sources are saying that Austin took trips to Miami this summer and they want to know who paid for them.  Also players are having their rent paid for by agents, so the sources say.  This is strictly illegal in the view of the NCAA because it encourages future recruits to choose a certain school because they know they will get certain perks that are not allowed.  South Carolina's tight end Weslye Saunders is also being investigated due to his ties to Marvin Austin, he apparently went on those trips to South Beach with him.

All of this comes at a bad time for UNC considering last week Quan Sturdivant another star defender was caught with pot.  More bad timing for UNC, at least in my opinion, is the fact that Brandon Willis switched his commitment from Tennessee to UNC at the last possible second.  The bad part about this was that another Tennessee recruit Corey Miller claimed that UNC offered him money to change his commitment to UNC but he didn't. This has the stench of stealing recruits by showing them that if you are a decent player you will get illegal benefits at UNC.  With that said it will be interesting to see where this goes in the next couple of weeks so until then I don't lay down an iron hammer on anyone to hard.

Also Florida's recruit, who was drafted by the Steelers, Maurkice Pouncey, took 100,000 bucks from an agent before their bowl game this year.  If that is the case the minimum punishment for UF would be vacating their bowl win versus the Bearcats.

I think the NCAA is going to take away UF win and thats it. I think they will also make South Carolina vacate all the wins from last season. UNC is a different story because the fact that other players claim they were offered money to play there and also that more than one player was involved. I think they will be a made an example of more the USC was.
