Manning will Breeze by Brees

As we have a long two week wait for the Super Bowl players from both teams will be battling it out in the film rooms as well as the practice field to prepare for the big day. All of which is done in order to get a small advantage come game day. The unfortunate part, at least for the Saint’s, is that they will be facing the king of film reviews and finding out where to exploit the other team, Peyton Manning.

Manning is known for his ability to seek out imperfections in defenses and then execute. Look at what he did to the Jets number one defense in the league. He started out slow, observed how they were playing defense and then wham, unleashed his potent offense, who followed his orders from the line of scrimmage to take advantage. The first two offensive possessions resulted in 20 yards and two sacks against Manning a feat that rarely happens. Then as far I could tell Peyton had the Jets figured out. The next drive resulted in 3 points and 77 yards. After a fumble on the next drive again the Colts drove 80 yards, but feel short with another Matt Stover field goal for 3 more points. From there on out the colts cruised with 2 touch downs and a field goal. What I’m proving here is that Manning started out slow but read the Jets defense and never looked back. This is what the Saints have to be worried about, especially with their defense not being near as potent as that of the Jets.

However, the Saints offense is almost as potent, if not more potent than that of the Colts. The only problem is that sometimes the Saints do not perform to their full potential. Take yesterday they gained 257 total yards against a less than average Minnesota defense. He did exactly opposite of Peyton in starting out quick but easily being figured out by the defense. I feel that the Colts quick and smart defense, even undersized as they are, will figure out Brees and the Saints offense will stall.

Drew Brees is more than capable of leading his team to the Super Bowl, but I don’t believe he has what it takes to beat the Colts. His work ethic in the next two weeks might be extraordinary but he doesn’t have a mind that is the same level of Peyton. This means that both men could put in a hundred hours on the practice field and in the film room but this is not equivalent. Drew Brees might learn as much in his hundred hours as Peyton could learn in fifty. His performance against the Vikings was much less than great and proves he doesn’t have as good as mind as Manning. It should be noted however that Brees is a great quarterback but it is hard to withstand the test of being compared to the best

With that said the Saints might start out quick and then the Colts come roaring out in the second quarter again to make the Super Bowl a less than exciting game with a pretty decent win. My prediction is Colts 37, Saints 14.
