TOMMY time again

It is that time of year again where I take a unique look at the world of sports from The Corner. Modeled after ESPN¹s ESPY awards, the TOMMYs are unique to this space. They recognize things that have gotten my attention in recent days.
The first TOMMY out of the gate goes to Lebron James of the Miami Heat. He gets the
"Do you really think you are Magic, Michael or Larry" TOMMY. There is no doubt this guy is a great player but going back two years to his famous, " I am taking my talent to South Beach" quote James has shown that his opinion of himself is much higher than what most people think."
The man who is some times call King James is not nor will he ever be Michael Jordan, no one  ever will be. He doesn't belong on the same floor with Magic Johnson and he will never shoot like Larry Bird. Even Kobe of his own generation is more interesting.
The San Francisco Giants get a TOMMY this year for best team effort I have seen in a long time. Players all around the horn earned the perfect game Matt Kane got credit for Wednesday night. I am sure he recognizes it but those guys went above and beyond the call of duty to make great plays to preserve the gem for Kane. I only saw highlights but it was clearly an outstanding performance by the whole team.
The "Please make it go away" TOMMY goes to the Sandusky trial. Coach Joe Paterno must be dizzy from rolling over in his grave following his former assistant coach's sexual abuse trial. The Corner is family friendly so no more talk about details.
More than likely I will spend at least part of Father¹s Day watching a guy in a red shirt make his way through the U.S. Open. That assumes Tiger Woods makes the cut. That is no where near as certain as it used to be but Tiger is still the point of any focus of any tournament he is in. He will be this weekend giving him his second TOMMY when he gets the "These young guys don't scare me, I am still the greatest golfer on the planet" TOMMY.
In the spirit of Father's Day, my dad gets the "Most Fun I have ever had at a sport event" TOMMY. It has been 20 plus years but I still remember using our arms as Tomahawks to chop through the hottest air I have ever felt. It was August in Atlanta, what do you hope.
Hot beer, $4, cold coke, $3, hot dogs two for $1, watching dad nearly get thrown out of a Braves game for punching  a beach ball out of a security guard's hand, priceless.
Here's to all of you who took time out to visit The Corner, still the best fans on the web.
