Favre to give it one more try

Farve is Back

OK, maybe not officially as of 7 a.m. Wednesday when these words are typed but there is no mystery to this “mystery.”
It looks like some time today Brett Favre will officially announce he is coming back to the Minnesota Vikings, again. It looks like he will officially put his legacy and his health on the line because of his ego. Someone should give him Muhammed Ali’s phone number so he can ask him what happens to athletes who don’t know when to quit.

Anyone who doesn’t think Favre is going to be a target should read the recent quote of  New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. His team plays the Vikings the first game of the season. He said something along the lines of “We are going to show how tough we are this year and we are going to start with #4.

Favre’s off season antics are old. When he said a tearful good-bye in Green Bay it was touching. When he left the Jets the next season to retire people were skeptical. When he left the Vikings last year sports fans knew he would likely be back. He came to close to one more Super Bowl to pass up an opportunity this year.

The only thing more pathetic than Favre’s retirements saga is Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell. He flew down to Favre’s home in Mississippi for a little sleep over to convince him to come back. That was a waste of time because I contend that decision was made when the horn went off in the NFC championship game last year. Favre just likes the media attention his retirement soap operas continue to bring.
If Favre does not come back I will look kind of foolish with these statements but I am willing to put my reputation on the line. Get ready for one more season of number four battling father time in Minnesota.
